    Funny how people seem to want to pay for expensive things when a free thing does the same job. I get it when it comes to buying say, a yacht or a sports car, but a technical course to learn and understand an ads platform?

    When indie legend Russell Blake decided to create AmsAdWerks in 2018 he tapped me to learn Amazon Advertising. I was working as a starving artist in a Mexican barrio, so it was a no-brainer. When I asked him if I should take the “go to” expense course, he replied, “Why would we pay $850 to reguritate the same [stuff]?”

    So bought a book for $9.99 and took the $9.99 course on Udemy built on the book…haha, and build a massive business that has now worked on hundreds of accounts and managed millions of dollars in spend. That book and course is now outdated and not available, so when I needed a simple and easy to follow course for new employees, I turned to Dave Chesson.

    Look, Amazon Advertising isn’t hard — it’s a bit confusing at first because there’s a bunch of new terms and, well, it’s new. You’re a creative and all this math gives you a headache. But it’s not hard, if you can write a book, for goodness sake, you can figure out the platform without shelling out a bunch of money.

    The reason people tend to think it’s hard is that it doesn’t work for most indies, NOT because it’s hard, but because it’s insanely competitive and the vast majority of indies cannot profit from Amazon Advertising (except maybe at micro-spends that are barely worth the time and effort it takes). Sure, you can get a positive ROI if you follow (X influencer’s model) but so what if you’re making $20 a month? Or even $100? You’re way better off writing more books because that’s what makes ads work, your product line, not any magical formulas or expertise in running ads.

    Our business survives because we do monotnous work for busy and successful indies who’d rather be doing other things than managing keywords and bids.

    If you haven’t got a catalog of at least six or seven books, don’t even bother with ads unless you’re happy making less than minimum wage for your time.

    If you’re going to insist on running ads, you’re insane not to take this free course to learn the platform.
